Le Romarin

We spent a week in France in April of 2024, with our time spend between Nice and Menton.  It was a wonderful time to visit — not too hot, not too cold, and not too many people.  No swimming, of course, but that was ok.  We stayed in an apartment not far from Nice’s old town (Vieux Nice), which is comprised of winding streets, pastel buildings, small square, and surprises around every corner.

I’ve been working on a project for a couple of years now photographing cafe scenes on film using vintage cameras.  I like the look film gives me for these photos — more grain, a little less perfect than the tack-sharp photos we’re used to in the digital world.  Most of that project comprises photos from Paris, but I’ve tried to find good cafe scenes in other French cities as well.  So, I was very excited when I turned a corner in Vieux Nice and saw this cafe, with the tables perfectly lit by the sun:

I think this photo will make a nice addition to the cafe project.  My long term goal was to create a small photo book, but I don’t feel like I have quite enough photos to fill a book yet.  I do have some of the cafe photos for sale on my Etsy store, which is FranceOnFilm.
