Winter in South Haven

As I’ve mentioned in a few previous posts, I really enjoy cold weather, winter photography.  The ever-changing combination of snow, ice, wind, and light makes each winter landscape unique, something that won’t be repeated again.

Most of my winter photography has taken place along the western edge of Michigan, just a few short hours north of where I live.  There, the winter ice along the lake creates wonderful photographic opportunities, as long as it gets cold enough!

This year hasn’t been great for snow and ice, so I’m reaching into my archives from last year.  This photo was taken a year ago in South Haven, Michigan.  This is one of my favorite lighthouses, and on this evening, we had a nice pink glow after the sun dipped below the horizon.  Brisk winds created some nice waves, with frozen ice highlighting the catwalk and piers.
