Leon’s Plaza Principal
Recently, I spent a couple of nights in Leon, Guanajuato. My main “focus” was to take photos of the Templo Expiatorio with the full moon. However, I spent one night on the main plaza, Plaza Principal, hoping for a nice sunrise or sunset scene.
The best view of the Plaza is from the Ramada hotel, where you can get a room with a balcony overlooking the Plaza. I set up my tripod on the balcony and waited for a good sunset, which didn’t really happen. In fact, the Plaza was a bit of a disappointment at night. Unlike many plazas in Mexico, the church lights weren’t turned on, even on the weekend. So, my best photo ended up being a middle-of-the-day shot with some storm clouds rolling in. I love the churches and the carefully sculpted trees.
Leon isn’t really a typical tourist destination, but I enjoyed my time there. A lot of people stop for the famous leather market, but the central core of the city is certainly worth a visit as well.
