Capo Miseno and Vesuvius

During my July 2019 trip to Italy, I tried to get up early for sunrise a few morning.  The sunrise on the island of Procida was a little harder to capture.  One morning, I climbed up the Terra Murata hill, where I found an overlook looking toward the Bay of Naples.  On the left, I could see the Capo Miseno, and the lighthouse that sits on it.  On the right, Vesuvius rose out of the haze.  I photographed the scene into the rising sun, despite the haze.

This photo is a little different than my typical style, with lower contrast, and softer colors.  The light was incredibly beautiful and I think this photo captured it well.

When I talk about landscape photography to others, I always stress trying to get out of bed early.  While it isn’t easy to get out of bed at 5am during your vacation, you can’t find light like this any other time of the day.
