In and Around Place Massena

Place Massena is the beating heart of Nice.  This beautiful plaza with its black and white patterned tile is surrounded by beautiful buildings painted red and orange.  Bustling with energy, people congregate near the fountain, catch the tram, or pass through on their way to the beach.  Street performers can be found each night, and there are often open air concerts.  The public art is impressive, with a series of sculptures by Jaume Plensa lit at dusk.  There is almost always something going on and this is a great place to people watch.

I found myself drawn to the plaza over and over again during my week in Nice.  There was so much energy, and lots of photographic opportunities.  I even got up at sunrise to visit the plaza when there was hardly anyone around, to see what it would be like.  Here are a few photos from in and around Place Massena, enjoy!
