The Cemetery in Campeche

During my last visit to Campeche, I walked to the cemetery south of the centro.  It’s fairly easy to find, and a nice walk, though it was very hot.  Click here for a map.  Entering through the main gate, a wide path of alternating color tiles lead into the cemetery.

Like other Mexican cemeteries I have photographed, you’ll notice that the graves are jumbled and packed together quite closely.  Walking through them ends up feeling like a maze, with interesting things around each corner…including a casket, sitting on the ground.  It was empty, despite what it looks like!

Here are a few more photos of the cemetery. It was a beautiful place!  Please click the images for larger versions.
